Alastair Barron joined Burrill Green in early 2017 after successful careers in the British Army and then over 20 years in the corporate security sector.

As a security and intelligence specialist in the Intelligence Corps, Alastair gained experience of many of the key threats that still create risk within the private sector in Europe, UK and the Far East. Taking this experience into the City of London in 1993 in the aftermath of the 1992 and 1993 IRA bombs, Alastair worked with the City Police and the business community to help them understand the risks to their business processes and systems and then to develop their ability to make their business resilient, establish crisis management capabilities, create competitive advantage and so enhance their brands.

Since then, Alastair has established a regional security capability in Europe and Asia for Lehman Brothers and has led the Group Security function for two FTSE 100 companies, the Barclays Group and most recently the Old Mutual Group where his team included information security, IT security, financial crime, protective security, crisis management and insurance specialists. This broad experience has given Alastair experience of working in, and with, major international corporates with global footprints. He sat on the board of Old Mutual's Guernsey based insurance company.

He has also spent time in the security technology sector, initially taking Qinetiq's technology into the Middle East and North Africa and latterly leading their information security consultancy. Whilst a relatively small business, with annual revenues of 5.0m, it was commercially efficient and exceeded delivery targets.

Alastair Barron has a reputation for developing security strategies, processes and cultures that are proportionate, cost effective and pragmatic enabling, even encouraging, the business to take operational risk to move their business forward. In creating the new Group Security team in Old Mutual, Alastair established strong relationships with senior leaders in London and across the businesses, gaining their trust in his, and their own, security functions' abilities to add value to their operations.

Alastair has a BA(Hons) in French, German and Psychology and an MBA (Distinction) from Southampton University where he focused on risk management during his elective studies. He is a Fellow of the UK's Security Institute and a member of the International Security Management Association where he sits on the Board.
